Resume - Creating a resume that gets results!
When people are looking for work, they use resumes to sell their skills to prospective employers. Resumes essentially speak for the prospective employee. Therefore, for those individuals seeking gainful employment, ensuring that their resumes are up to par is absolutely essential.The first thing a prospective employee should consider is their cover letter. All resumes should be submitted with an accompanying cover letter, unless the ad posted by the potential employer states otherwise. Cover letters, in essence, summarize who the employee is and the reason for their contact. Further, in lacking a required cover letter, employers might be misled into thinking that the prospective employee is unprofessional and may even disregard a resume in its entirety.
Cover letters are brief introductions to the resume that will follow, so it is not necessary for individuals to reiterate everything that is introduced in the resume they submit. Thus, by keeping a cover letter brief, no more than one page, an individual limits the amount of redundancies they submit to an employer: redundancies that can seem both boring and annoying to a potential employer.
A cover letter should only include an individual's name, address, contact information, the address of the individual being contacted, a proper greeting, perhaps two or three paragraphs stating the reason for contact, a professional closing and a signature. Finally, individuals should not forget to note at the bottom of their letter that their resume is enclosed; if the cover letter should somehow become separated from the resume, and employer will know that a resume was included with the letter.
Resumes should include the fundamental information that an employer will need to determine whether or not they want to interview the person submitting the resume. Typically a resume will include an individual's full name, address, email address, home telephone number, job objective, and academic and professional experience.
A resume should not be longer than a page long. If an individual creates a resume and finds that it is longer than acceptable, it is advised that they cut back on the information they provide and make a notation at the end of the resume offering further information and reference upon request. In separating references from the initial resume, an individual can successfully send the most crucial information to an employer first, and during or after the interview, supply professional references.
Submitted resumes should be flawless; because resumes stand as a representation of the employee, it should be free of spelling errors, incorrect structure, formatting errors or any other mechanical problems. Also, submitted resumes should be submitted, unless they are submitted via online websites, on professional resume paper.
Resumes represent the individuals that submit them. Therefore, when individuals submit resumes they must bear in mind that the resume works as an advertisement for that individual's skills. Further, resumes do all of the speaking for an individual looking to be hired therefore, the language used in a resume must be both professional and concise.
There are many resume writing services available for individuals that lack the correct resume writing skills. For a small investment, job seekers can hire a company or a freelance writer to write their resumes for them. Bearing in mind, once again, that a resume stands as a representation of the individual; such fees incurred from hiring a professional writer are well worth the costs.
Alternatively, individuals wanting to learn how to correctly write their resumes can easily find instructive information on the Internet. A number of websites offer resume writing tips, templates, and examples. Further, many websites address the issue of cover letters and how to appropriately write and format them. In fact, via a simple Internet search, job seekers can even find resume generators online that will help them create a resume just by inserting the appropriate information into the generator.
